Testimonials: Powerful and FREE!

One of the most effective sales tools you can use doesn't cost a penny.
I'm talking about enthusiastic testimonials
from satisfied customers.
They have tremendous credibility
that money just can't buy.
Check out these 5 proven ideas
1. Use testimonials wherever you can. Include them, as appropriate, in emails, sales letters, brochures, ads, on product boxes, you name it.
2. Keep them short. Unless you've got a real humdinger, a testimonial should be one, two, or three sentences long. It's better to have many short testimonials than a few long ones.
3. Don't use anonymous testimonials. If you're selling hemorrhoid cream, you can't expect someone to write a testimonial and then sign off with their name. But if you're selling just about anything else, you need at least the person's full name. Initials only, just don't cut it. No credibility.
4. Try to get testimonials that relate to specific benefits. Not general ones. EXAMPLES . . .
WRONG: Cynthia's seminar was terrific. I learned a lot!
RIGHT: Cynthia's time-management seminar showed me how to save an hour a day that I was wasting. That's five extra hours a week!
WRONG: Your organization-chart software is really wonderful. I love using it and recommend it highly.
RIGHT: Your organization-chart software is really great because it shows who's who in the company at a glance. This means that all our new-hires can get up to speed three times faster.
5. Use spontaneous compliments. Let's pretend that you're talking to a customer or client and they say "Hey, your software is really fabulous. It's helped us cut costs by about 20%!" How do you respond? Say, "Thanks very much. That's nice to hear. I'd love to use your comment as a testimonial." Etc., etc.
