How to get 25% more email "opens"
April, 2023
Okay. You’re all set.
You’ve written a motivating email, selected your list, and hit ”send.”
But, believe me, you shouldn’t stop there.
You should plan on resending
the exact same email again days or weeks later.
Why? Because you’ll pick up a tremendous extra number of “opens.”
Obviously, there are many reasons why people won't open your email when it arrives.
However, many on your list will open your resend.
Let me share my Levison Letter numbers with you.
When I resend, I get on average
an additional 27% opens!
Check out this hypothetical example based on a 25% second-mailing open rate . . . a rate I believe is totally realistic:
- Your first email gets 2,000 opens.
- You resend and get an additional 500 opens!
That’s nothing to sneeze at.
I might add that many email mailers get even biggerpercentages of resend opens. (It really depends on the kind of product/offer/industry involved.)
I can help your response rates soar!
Five important facts you should know.
Fact #1: According to Constant Contact: “Of all the contacts who will open your email, 89% open within the second day of receiving it, and 93% open by the third day.”
Fact #2: When you resend, change your subject line. Maybe your original subject line was weak. Plus, with a new subject line, your resend will seem fresh, not like a retread . . . which of course it is. (More on subject lines down the road.)
Fact #3: Be sure you don’t resend to people who have already opened your first mailing. It's a mistake you can make if you're asleep at the switch.
Fact #4: If you’re concerned that a resend will annoy your prospects, check your “unsubscribes.” If they significantly increase, you’re in trouble. Junk the resend idea. If there’s no big increase, you’re golden! On average I get absolutely no increase in unsubscribes.
Fact #5: In case you're interested, I resend my email on the third day after the first mailing.
